Chocolate icing donut blender material2/10/2024 ![]() ![]() This makes a lot of sense to me as I will definitely need to work on my “sense of art” after familiarizing myself a bit more with Blender. I read a blog post from someone who started 3D modelling last year that heavily focused on just modelling at first and doing low poly stuff. I also like that it’s in a “low poly” style. I figure following another very basic beginner tutorial from someone else will help reinforce some of the knowledge I got from the donut tutorial. Next up, I’ll be following this tutorial. When rendering, I had to use the Eevee engine because I do not have a GPU! Hopefully this doesn’t hold me back too much as I really enjoyed it and I hope to be able to make some small films eventually! It’s hard to stare at a donut for over a week! These issues were mostly from me eventually losing a bit of interest with the donut itself. I think his looked way tastier and looked way better when animated. Select a color for your Icing in the Viewport. Select your Icing object Open the Materials panel and add a new material to the Icing object Scroll down and expand the Viewport Display section. Compared to Blender Guru, mine was a bit flatter. In the Viewport Shading drop-down menu, change the Color from Material to Random: Specific colors. I really wanted white icing on a chocolate donut but had a hard time getting the colors down. This might be evident in the video, but I had an issue with the texture blending nicely on the right edge and I wasn’t sure how to fix it. I had to redo them and didn’t want to spend time on them. There are a few issues which could be fixed if I were to go back and redo: ![]() Overall, I’m pretty happy with the final outcome. It seems I probably can’t always do that in 3D and come up with my own solution just to not waste time and move along. I usually like to follow tutorials and do exactly what the presenter does as close as possible. This helped me to move along and didn’t really affect the final product. As a commenter recommended, I used proportional fall off to push the donut back down in places where it clipped. I restarted my donut a few times(~5 times!) because I couldn’t stop the icing from clipping. Okay…I followed a tutorial, but it still counts, right?Īs someone who has never used Blender, this was a good way to familiarize myself with some of the simpler stuff and learn about the various different things that can be accomplished with the software.Īround video 5 or 6 is when I started to struggle a bit. Presenting: my first complete Blender project! ![]()
